RIP Triclosan

RIP-TriclosanWell, it finally happened. After 20 years of railing against Triclosan (tri-chlorine sanitizer) and it’s potentially dangerous side effects, it is heartening to see the FDA step up to the plate and call out this dangerous topical biocide. Triclosan is now being banned in washing products.

There are times when you need powerful chemical disinfectants. Open heart surgery comes to mind. But not, NOT for everyday normal use. Reactions to Triclosan range from red, itchy hands and inflammation to long term autism mimicking symptoms. In other words this stuff not only attacks your skin, it has the potential to travel through skin to attack the nervous system.

Certified USDA Organic personal care, pet and cleaning products NEVER contain Triclosan, or anything else that would not go into an organic meal. Like you, I don’t like to spend more money than I have to on everyday products. However, some of the few things I’ve learned from my brief time here on earth include:

  • Life’s too short to eat bad food
  • Life’s too short to use bad soap
  • The cheapest thing is often the most expensive
  • Good things cost more (in the short run) and
  • Make everything that goes onto you or into you medicine

This is the Soapman doing the Happy Soaper’s dance now that the FDA is banning Triclosan from washing products. Thank you FDA. Job well done.
