Saying “No” to Fracked Gas Pipeline

The Vermont Soap factory was host to a press conference yesterday for those opposing the fracked gas pipeline that is to be built through Addison County. Larry Plesent, founder and President of Vermont Soap, made it very clear that he believes this is a step backward in Vermont’s progress toward cleaner energy.

“By using nature, we can create a sustainable future, but we have to get cracking. Now’s the time to do it,” said Plesent.

There are over 90 Vermont-based companies that are part of the movement to revoke the certificate of public good granted to Vermont Gas for the pipeline project by the Public Service Board.

So sad to say good by, but I have to. I can’t afford to pay for questionable “renewables” that kill birds, create huge long term problems for our landfills and most are all in all worse for our planet in the long run.

Guess I’ll have to find another place to buy our soaps, so sad.

My thought on this, as being an out of towner: Larry did not explain what the negatives are, and the dairy plant did not fully explain their positives to the pipeline. The only thing I heard, was the one man saying “foreign”. This does not let those who do not watch media, know what you are talking about. Yes, there are those who think TMZ is the nightly news, and are not educated on this topic. Newschannel 5 should have gone over the pluses and minuses. But maybe Larry can go over what his plusses and minuses are, here on the site. SInce he no longer wants to sell soap, he should maybe have a page on his opinions to the pipeline. And as a marketing professional, I did see the cheap advertising this brought Vermont soap.

You’ve just lost me as a customer….When an individual decides for many poor people, I frown on you…..90 to affect the little guy, ALL of you 90 started at the TOP….Means to me you don’t need us little people….Goodbye

When the international energy giant Gaz Metro decided to run a pipeline from the Canadian Alberta Tar Sands project a thousand miles away right by the door of the Vermont Soap Factory, the company had to make a decision. Should we invest in equipment to use what is unquestionably the most environmentally destructive carbon harvesting scheme yet devised by man -or- should we invest in hydropower electricity from dams located just a couple of miles away?

The answer seemed obvious; invest in local clean power to make beautiful natural soap with. And that is what we did. Vermont Soap invested nearly $100,000 in high efficiency steam generators and other equipment to heat our organic soap kettles.

You can be assured that Vermont Soap pays the same careful attention to our energy sourcing as we do to our ingredient sourcing. Thank you for thinking about energy sourcing!

Larry, As I was hinting at, you appear to have lost 2 consumers, with your free advertising stunt. Centrist/Moderate and Conservative shoppers, who HAVE THE MONEY, do not like polarization, such as this. If you would have stayed away from this Newschannel 5 story, you would not be hearing of losing customers, on your website. This topic is not one for consumers to see. Yes, you decide to go green, but the pipeline is way too big for a small factory. I also do admit that I am leaning towards using the other (principle ridden) product, found in my natural section of my local store. It is also cheaper, does not cost postage, and the results of this organic soap are the same. The reason I was a consumer… You help people in other areas to be sustainable, without polarizing or being involved with any politics. This is clearly no longer true. My advice… BURY THIS STORY NOW. Get rid of it off the site, stop trying to be an advocate, and sell soap, along with teach how soap helps the economy grow. Pipeline or not, you are not on this site to be an advocate, but to sell soap. Any other use should be constituted as misuse…. and an abuse you your consumers.

Me thinks, Mr. Pleasant is only a half believer……Hope he dosen’t drink his neighbors milk, because his cows produce more Methane….Than all of the cars in N.Y.! I love milk. Larry, you shouldnot be allowed to use all those trucks to deliver all of those organic soaps, I love my Ford! The silent majority has paid for your 100,000 dollar steam……You (larry) should pay attention to M. Gobel says…..make soap..!
