Vermont Soap and the Town of Hardwick Team up to Attempt a Soapy World’s Record

HARDWICK, VT  May 2017  (For Immediate Release)

The Vermont Soap Company, Hardwick residents and local nonprofits will attempt to break the World Record for the number of people simultaneously hand washing dishes this month on May 27’th. Everyone is welcome to come and be part of putting Hardwick, VT and Vermont Soap on the world record map. Downtown Hardwick, at Atkins Field; on Granite Street. Contest starts at 2:30 p.m.

Vermont Soap is teaming up with the Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE), the Hardwick Kiwanis Club, the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District (CVSWMD) and the Heart of Vermont Chamber of Commerce to attempt to break the existing record of 300 people. That record was set in the Philippines by Proctor and Gamble in November 2016.

“This is a good clean event,” reports Larry Plesent, Founder and CEO of Vermont Soap.  “No animals will be harmed during this friendly competition; and only certified organic soap will be used in the washing of these dishes. Most of the dishes washed are re-purposed from thrift stores, but you are welcome to bring your own if you want.”

Vermont Soap is sponsoring a Soap Sculpting Competition using Sudzy Putty (Mold it! Sculpt it! Wash with it!), one of the hundreds of natural products they make in Middlebury, VT

Look for the soap booth and stop in for free samples of many of their famous natural care products.

SpringFest is the town’s annual celebration with a parade, Little League and baseball games, foot races, Sustainability exhibitors, a giant craft fair, hot dog eating contest, a people pulling a truck contest, and a big feast of hot dogs and hamburgers under the tent at Atkins Field. This town wide festival has been going on for 67 years, and this year organizers are teaming up to break the world record for simultaneous hand-dish washing.

By collecting re-useable dishes and plates from second-hand stores and lawn sales, CAE, the Chamber, Kiwanis Club and CVSWMD will reduce waste for this event while creating a library of re-useable dishes and plates that community members can borrow for future events.

People eating lunch during the SpringFestivities will be asked to leave their plates behind, and come back down to Atkins Field on Granite Street at 2:30 p.m. to help with the wash-off. Organizers will also recruit from the town, schools, and other organizations in surrounding towns to find at least 400 people willing to help set a new world’s record. To break the record, the organizers need help from neutral officials who will help with counting the crowd and confirming the number of people. Individuals will be counted with clickers as they enter a cordoned-off area under the big tent. Hardwick Community Television will video the event as further proof.

CAE is collecting pledges from individuals who are willing to come help by washing a dish on the afternoon of May 27 to help Hardwick put itself on the map of world record events.
