Where can I find Jonquil bath oil in the US?
Question for Larry….
We used to source some wonderful JONQUIL bath oil in the UK but it seems to have dropped out of production. We assume it was mixed with other oils as Jonquil is we deduce VERY expensive, and wonder if you knew where we could source some of the raw oil or a ready mixed version…and how much it might cost?
Looking on-line we seem to find little available to the consumer, and wonder if you have contacts/suppliers you could ask for us? There is no hurry for a response but we’d love to be able to soak away our worries in a hot bath one day!
Kind regards,
d3

Dear Dx3s:
Hello and always good to hear from you folks. For our website audience David and Dora run an amazing award winning B&B called the Woodstocker Inn – and they are long time Vermont Soap customers.
I can understand why you love this scent Dora. According to the folks at White Lotus Aromatics:
Jonquil Absolute is a viscous brown liquid displaying a heavy, warm honeyed, sweet floral bouquet with a green, balsamic undertone of fine tenacity. “It bears great resemblance to the fragrance of longoza and tuberose and a remote resemblance to Hyacinth.” Steffen Arctander
In natural perfumery is used in high class perfumes, sacred bouquets, Oriental bouquets.
It requires 2500 kilos of freshly harvested flowers to produce 1 kilo of absolute (1 kilo is 2.2 pounds).
At $450 an oz I can understand the attraction. Have David order you a 1/4oz or more for your next birthday or anniversary. Two drops in a hot bath should be all you need. Dilute some in sunflower oil and store away from light to make it last longer.
According to Fine Gardening’s web site Narcissus jonquil can be grown in your region. If you were to pack a pickling jar with freshly picked and crushed flowers and tincture them in nearly pure alcohol you will get something like a perfume concentrate. Dilute to suit.
Note: The Narcissus family is poisonous (never let anyone drink this!), and repeated contact may cause a dermatitis reaction in some people.
Wishing You All the Best!
