Liquid Soap Making, Alkali, and Goats Milk

Hello there,

Saw your videos very educational and interesting, especially the liquids soap. Does your liquid soap making go through the paste and dilution process like majority of the world. What types of alkali do you use Potassium Carbonate or Potassium Hydroxide for your liquid soap and Sodium Carbonate or Sodium Hydroxide for your bar soap?

Is hydroxide better or carbonate for soap making?

Also, are there any goat milk soap from your company and what is your opinion of using goat milk in the soaping process, please. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Danny

Hi Danny,

Glad our videos inspired you to write. It is always a pleasure to meet other people who get excited about saponification!

Danny: I am sorry but this information is a trade secret. I will tell you that we did not develop ANY of our formulas or processes by simply reading a book or by watching a video. I learn something about soap every day because we experiment here EVERY day. Hint: You learn more from your failures than you do from your successes.

Hydroxides are stronger and purer and cleaner and more generally available in developed countries.  Potassium carbonate takes longer to set the soap because it has a lower pH.

Also, are there any goat milk soap from your company and what is your opinion of using goat milk in the soaping process? Thank you.

Danny: I am lactose intolerant and milk in soap creeps out my skin and leaves it feeling weird and itchy. Since I test everything on myself (not on animals) well, you can see where I am going here. VT Soap does not use the processed lactation product of our or other mammalian species in any of its products. (Vegans Rejoice!).

All the Best Danny!
