April 13, 2016

Vermont Soap and Spicewood Organic Deodorant racked up another award by making the Better Nutrition’s Best of Natural Beauty 2016 Shopping List. According to the editors: The masculine scent is reminiscent of Old Spice but not overpowering. The combination of coconut oil, cornstarch, rosemary extract, and essential oils work to keep you smelling great all day.

Detergent Sensitivity

April 8, 2016

What is it, and how do I know if I have it? Detergent sensitivity is much more widespread than people generally realize. Up to 12% of the population may in fact be detergent sensitive to one degree or another. Potential misdiagnosis include eczema, psoriasis, and chronic dry skin which is made worse by exposure to detergent chemicals. Detergent sensitivity differs from detergent allergies, which are believed to affect less than 1% of the population. An allergy is a protein antibody your body creates in response to a protein molecule entering the bloodstream and being marked as an invasive substance. Detergents…

Tips for Storing Salves and Balms

January 28, 2016

Store your Green Gold Herbal Moisturizer, Shea Butter, Coco Luscious and Arnica Salve in the refrigerator for a longer shelf life and to maintain a nice even consistency. Oil based salves and balms are temperature sensitive. This means that they will be hard at cold temperatures and creamy at warmer ones. Choco Luscius might arrive very solid in the Winter (warm to room temps before using). Conversely it might be too loose when it arrives in Summertime (refrigerate for an hour before using). Being aware of the intrinsic temperature sensitive nature of organic salves makes them easier to use and…

Vermont Soap Goes to Germany

January 12, 2016

Vermont Soap will be attending BIOFACH 2016, the largest organic trade show on the planet this February. Our goal for the show is to expand into new European markets, especially for our bulk liquid and gel soaps. Vermont Soap invented the first shower gel certified to USDA organic food standards, which we sell in bulk to companies around the world as a base ingredient for their products. Vermont Soap was the recipient of a small USDA grant to help us attend the show. Thank you USDA! Pictures will be posted next month. Best!

Microbeads are in the News!

November 6, 2015

Imagine over one trillion non-biodegradable tiny plastic beads going down drains across America each and every day. That’s 3,650,000,000,000,000 beads washed down the drains of America just in the past decade. These microbeads are not biodegradable in water and will remain underground and in our waters long after America is a mere wisp of memory and a brief footnote in time. Maybe we could justify it if these plastic beads cured cancer or ADHD, or any of the other banes of our modern convenience lifestyle like the inability of teenagers to do chores. But no, microbeads are used to help…

Neonics Are Threatening Our Water

September 18, 2015

The EPA needs to listen up: As a new CFS report shows, neonics have caused widespread contamination of water bodies across the United States, and as a result, have jeopardized a range of wildlife including crabs, insects, and migratory birds. We are on the verge of another environmental catastrophe and the EPA needs to put a stop to it!

Pets are in the news!

August 11, 2015

Pets are in the news! And also in our stores, offices, cars, laps, camping grounds and hiking trails. How about some actual straight talk about natural pet products for a change? Herbal bug repellent sprays last about a half an hour so actual value may be overstated; unless you get the bonus size. Better still, apply the oil blend onto a bandana and tie it around your pet’s neck. Some natural pet companies make special collars and premade blends for this. Vermont Soap makes an oil based Camping Lotion that can be rubbed onto your pet or pet’s cloth. The…
